Client Intro
United Community Services of Johnson County (UCS) is a non-profit that provides data analysis, leads collaborative planning and mobilizes resources to enhance health and human services in Johnson County, Kansas.

Idea Summary
As a trusted community convener, UCS plays a vital role in helping community partners, policymakers, funders and residents understand health and human service needs in Johnson County. But with an outdated website, inconsistent social content and limited internal capacity, their digital presence didn't fully reflect the depth or impact of their work. Our team came alongside this long-time client to refresh their brand, reimagine their website and bring greater consistency to their social channels—with a goal to make their story easier to access, understand and share.
Our Work
Our work began with a brand refresh that strengthened UCS's visual identity without changing their logo. We introduced updated colors, icons, patters and templated graphics to help UCS share community data and organizational updates with greater clarity and consistency.
From there, we completed an overhaul of the UCS website, built around purpose and usability. Before the redesign, the site was more text-heavy and could be difficult to navigate. Together, we reimagined the experience from the ground up—clarifying content, simplifying the page structure and weaving impact quotes throughout to reinforce UCS's mission.

The refreshed site now makes it easier for visitors to access community data, explore grant opportunities, learn about policy advocacy, register for events and understand the role UCS plays in strengthening Johnson County. Every element was designed to help users move through the site with easy and connect more quickly to the information they need.
Our team also took on social media strategy and management to help UCS engage their audiences proactively. We established messaging pillars and defined the content tone to build a strategy around UCS's priorities. A monthly content calendar created structure around key dates, events and advocacy efforts, while active engagement with community partners helped amplify reach and position UCS as a trusted voice in the health and human services space.
In the first year of active management, UCS's channels saw significant organic growth. On LinkedIn, the page gained over 200 new followers, impressions grew by 850%, engagements increased by 2,075% and engagement rate rose 128%. On Facebook, the page gained 150 new followers, impressions grew by over 100%, engagements increased by 465% and engagement rate rose 180%.
What began as a need for more consistent communications became a stronger digital foundation for UCS to connect more people to the resources, data and stories shaping health and human services in the community.
Overflow received a Gold Philly Award from Nonprofit Connect in the Social Media Brand Management category for it's social media and branding work with United Community Services of Johnson County.
