Client Intro

#MoveTogetherKC is a campaign to inspire and promote a culture of physical movement for every body in the Kansas City region. The campaign is powered by The Kansas City Physical Activity plan, a framework to increase physical activity through the work of partnering organizations in key sectors throughout the community.

Idea Summary

Kansas City is facing a health crisis. Ranked 91st out of the 100 largest U.S. cities in the 2023 Fitness Index by the American College of Sports Medicine, it is one of the 10 most unhealthy metros in America. Additionally, less than half of all children in the Kansas City region meet the recommended daily physical activity levels, a rate that dropped more than 25% between 2012 and 2019.

In response, Children’s Mercy Hospital’s Kansas City Healthy Lifestyles Collaborative united over 100 local organizations to launch #MoveTogetherKC, a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving physical activity and reversing the region’s alarming health trends. Strategies are driven by key community sectors, including Schools, Early Childhood, Parks and Recreation, Faith-Based Settings, Healthcare, and Media and Communications, among others. As part of the Media and Communications sector’s strategy to develop a branded media campaign promoting physical activity, Overflow created the campaign to inspire Kansas City residents to get moving.

Our Work

With the intention of uniting the whole community around promoting physical activity, this public awareness campaign was designed to be adaptable for anyone to deploy, including individuals or organizations who want to use their own brand colors or co-branding – while staying consistent with federal physical activity guidelines. The campaign’s identity centers around the hashtag #MoveTogetherKC, a call to action encouraging everyone to share the unique ways they stay active, from running and dancing to stretching and playing. Overflow developed a suite of high-quality assets, including social media templates, ready-made email and PR messages, and customizable marketing materials, making it easy for community organizations to amplify the message. This adaptability ensured the campaign could reach diverse audiences and drive participation across Kansas City. In addition to equipping community partners with tools to share the movement, campaign messages and content were also shared through branded social media channels on Instagram and Facebook @movetogetherkc. By promoting physical movement and forward progress, #MoveTogetherKC makes it easy for more people to take steps toward healthy, vibrant lifestyles.
