Client Intro

For more than six decades, HOBY has inspired young people to make a difference and become catalysts for positive change in their communities. As America’s foremost youth leadership organization, HOBY has a long history of motivating young people to develop into outstanding leaders using the social change model of leadership.

Idea Summary

The organization truly practices its philosophy of equipping and training leaders within its own organization. With a primarily volunteer-run organization consisting of 70+ local seminars internationally and an annual World Leadership Congress, HOBY HQ’s small team of leaders needed tools to communicate a clear and consistent message. HOBY has an impressive network of talented, service-oriented volunteer leaders who care about youth development – but that unique structure can create challenges when trying to align messaging and equip local volunteers with tools to help them grow.

Our Work

Overflow’s work with HOBY primarily focused on leading through narrative – creating video pieces that concisely and clearly communicated the organization’s mission, impact and key calls to action. Video communication encouraging schools to nominate a student to attend, paired with donor-focused communications and promotional pieces for their signature World Leadership Congress event are all aimed at growing the programming and reach of the non-profit organization.

With so many local seminars taking place, HOBY also wanted to streamline the curriculum and equip volunteers with more robust tools to implement throughout their local programs. Overflow worked alongside HOBY HQ staff and longtime volunteers to create a packaged video curriculum that sites can implement to ensure quality and consistency of messaging across the entire program.
